Personal VPN - OpenVPN and Windows 7

OpenVPN will run properly on Windows 7, with a few tweaks. The standard Vista compatible version of OpenVPN will also work correctly with Windows 7. To install OpenVPN on Windows 7:

Installing:

Download your OpenVPN installer. Make sure it is version 2.1. Save to a folder or your desktop.

In order to install the application, it must be run in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Right click on the file, select 'properties' and then select 'compatibility mode'. Now select 'Vista'.

Set the privilege level to 'Run this program as administrator'.

The installation will now proceed and OpenVPN will be properly installed.

Running OpenVPN:

Locate the file ' openvpn-gui.exe '

Right click and select 'properties'

Click on the 'Compatibility' tab

Check the 'Run this program as an administrator' box and then select 'OK'

Reboot your computer

You can now launch OpenVPN by just double-clicking on the icon on the desktop or from the Start Menu.
